Here is a fantastic example of the importance of being prepared for an interview.

Whenever you are being interviewed, you must always know the topic of discussion. While it is impossible to keep an interviewer from going off on a tangent, you can do a better job than Bob did at knowing your key messages and being able to bridge from a question being asked to an answer you want to give.
